Unstoppable is an American superhero film released in 2010. The film is described to be a mix between Superman, Thor, and X-Men. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie made $102 million on an estimated budget of $35 million. Unstoppable tells the story of Eric who wakes up with amnesia in a forest after being critically injured during a bank robbery that ends with his family killed by robbers. He has no memories except for his name and the fact that he has superpowers. There are few clues left behind to lead him back home, but he starts to unravel clues one at a time to search for answers about why his family was killed and what happened before he lost his memory. His journey takes him to a special government institution that tries to recruit him for a secret project with a lot of controversy. Eric is a regular person with no superpowers until one day he wakes up in the forest severely injured. He then starts developing superpowers and soon finds that his family have been killed by bank robbers. In the process of investigating his family's death, he accidentally discovers that there is something else out there as well as someone who wants to stop him from discovering the truth about himself and the real reason why his family was killed. Unstoppable was filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana from April 2009 till June 2009. It was finished on June 22, 2009, and entered post-production phase. The film was previewed once on November 10, 2010 at the Auburn Hills Michigan Embassy Theatre, and a release date of Christmas Day was announced. Unstoppable has received largely negative reviews. Based on 14 critics, review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gives the film an approval rating of 9% and an average score of 2.3/10; the general consensus states: "The title is misleading as "Unstoppable" is actually a tedious thriller that puts its premise into overdrive with ponderous execution." Another review aggregator Metacritic assigned the film a weighted average score of 26 out of 100 based on 9 reviews from mainstream critics. Eric Foner of the "New Orleans Times Picayune" said, "It was more like a 90-minute prologue." His sentiments were echoed by Joe Neumaier of the New York Daily News who found the film to be "a clumsy and desultory chase picture", and Robert Koehler of Variety who opined that, "Unstoppable is all about action and excitement but also about story and character motivation. And it fails on every level." Robert Abele of The Los Angeles Times gave a mixed review, directing criticism at both the script and the direction stating that it's "Flat-footed direction undercuts any notion that we’re watching anything special or remotely human". Roger Ebert of the "Chicago Sun-Times" gave the film 2 out of 4 stars, saying, "The movie has no sense of urgency. It has no time to develop its characters... But why rush, when all you want to do is look at ... 'em?" The film opened in 3,106 theaters at #5 grossing $12,028 per theater with an opening weekend gross of $34 million.
