It has a lot of variety not only in beats but in vocals as well with a lot of guests on this project which was refreshing to hear. This album not only provides us with memorable tracks, but also emphasizes through his lyrics how much "retirement" is just a word for him. "The Black Album" by Jay-Z is one of the hardest albums to listen to in its entirety. It's filled with so much material you really have to sit down and listen to this album in it's entirety. This album has no filler at all because every track was an important track for Hov. He speaks about his retirement (which ended up not being true) and his feelings about it leaving the rap game. He also talks about his relationships with other celebrities, past girlfriends, and his family among other things like the beef he had with Nas back then (rappers included) which eventually evolved into a collaboration ("Nigga What"). The Black Album by Jay-Z is superb and should be listened to by all rap fans. This album really shows how the game has changed since Jay stepped out of it (he eventually went back in because money was the only thing he could make). This album remains one of my favorites today, but I can see why some people don't like it. Those who are interested in the evolution of hip-hop would like this album. For those who weren't brought up on early 90s hip-hop or haven't changed their preference for other styles, The Black Album probably won't be something you listen to for enjoyment's sake. But for hip-hop fans, this is definitely a classic. One of the best overall albums ever released. Jay-Z is an amazingly talented rapper that has had a major impact on the hip-hop industry. He also has one of the most powerful voices in Hip Hop, which is why this album is considered his greatest achievement to date. "The Black Album" is one of the most beautiful pieces of art anyone has ever created or heard.
